Saga Movement Residency

Stokkseyri and Eyrarbakki, Iceland, 2016

Artist Statement

Through my residency in Iceland, I explored the transformative power of found objects and recycled materials, weaving them into a tapestry of personal and collective identity. My work is a reflection of assembling fragments—of materials, memories, and self—to create something whole and new.

As an immigrant, the notion of "home" has often felt foreign and fragmented. This piece emerged from a deeply personal place, illustrating the journey of piecing myself back together and reimagining unity amidst difference. By combining variations of discarded and diverse elements, I sought to show that everything—and everyone—has the potential to come together in harmony.

Art-making allows me to navigate and redefine belonging, revealing that we can continuously assemble and reassemble ourselves and our worlds to find connection and unity once more. Through this process, I celebrate the resilience of both materials and the human spirit.
